An environment
group slammed “false” carbon credit trading related to mainland China’s dams
which allegedly undermines the Kyoto Protocol, leading to a renewal of a carbon
trading platform’s ban on the country’s hydroelectric power projects, reported
South China Morning Post.
The group
International Rivers said there is no significant progress in hydropower
development to catch up with the country’s vast number of new water projects
falling in line for credits under Kyoto’s Clean Development Mechanism
China’s
hydropower projects make up a quarter of all projects lining up for the
mechanism, 67 percent of which is on the mainland, the Post reported.
